Finding Roman Heights
We are located near Hadrian's Wall about 4 miles north of Haltwhistle which is on the A69 between Newcastle and Carlisle.
For Sat Nav users enter our postcode NE49 9PS and this will direct you straight to us.
If travelling from the Newcastle direction you will leave the A1 and head west on the A69 in the direction of Hexham. Continue past Hexham, still on the A69 you will pass Haydon Bridge. Turn off the A69 near Bardon Mill (right turning) when you see the brown tourist signs for Vindolanda and The Sill. Follow the signs all the way to The Sill then stop at the junction (this is a staggered crossroads) just past the Sill entrance. You now have a main road (B6318) going across the front of you. Turn right and then immediate left. Continue on this road through Hadrian's Wall at Steel Rigg for just over a mile and our drive way is on the right.
If travelling from the South: Turn off the M6 at junction 43 if coming from the South and follow signs for Hexham/Newcastle, this will take you East on the A69. If coming down to Carlisle from Scotland come off at M6 junction 44 and follow signs for Hexham/Newcastle this will eventually bring you onto the A69. Keep going along the A69 you will encounter one or two roundabouts for a few miles just follow signs for the A69 to Hexham/Newcastle and eventually you will pass a Shell garage on the left at Low Row. Once past this garage you want to turn off the A69 about 4 miles further along at Greenhead. Turn left off the A69 for Greenhead - at this point the A69 goes down a steep bank and there is a speed camera on the left before the turning. The road is only a couple of hundred yards long before it ends at a junction. Turn right and keep on this road (B6318) for about 4½ miles and look out for a pub on the right called The Mile Castle. Keep going on the same road past the pub and take the first left turning about a mile further up signposted Edges Green. Once on this road you will travel through Hadrian's Wall, take the first right turning which is about ¾ mile further along, it will have a sign saying “no coaches”. Our driveway is the first turning on the left.
Our drive is a little bumpy and there might be animals around so please take your time. Once at the top of the drive turn right and go around the back of the building that is in front of you where you will find parking and reception.
