Roman Heights Access Statement

We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors to our holiday cottage, such as our buildings will allow. If there are any specific requests please feel free to contact us either by phone or email.

Arrival and Parking

On arriving at Roman Heights you will turn off the tarmac country lane on to our driveway. As expected with a traditional farm the driveway and yard are of loose stone and may be a bit uneven.

The driveway is about 100yds long, once at the top turn right in the yard and go around to the other side of the farm building that was in front of you via a farm gate. You will now be in a yard covered in gravel next to your cottage.

Parking is straight ahead at the end of a stable block.

There is lighting for the yard from a couple of motion sensitive lights.

There is a separate laundry room at the end of our stable block that guests may use, this is at the far side of the gravel covered yard.

We have a reception area at our main house opposite Roman Heights cottages that is accessed by several stone steps or sloped path leading down to the entrance.

The driveway and first yard are shared with our neighbour and must be kept clear of vehicles at all times to allow access.


Entry to your cottage is via a small stone step through the front door into the kitchen and dining area.

Two ground floor bedrooms lead off from here one with a single bed and one with a single bed and a single pull out/trundle bed.

There is also a modern shower room with toilet and washbasin on the ground floor.

The location of these bedrooms and toilet /shower room may be beneficial to someone with reduced mobility.

The stairs have a handrail and lead up to a seating area with TV and is well lit.

Off the seating area is a master bedroom with king-sized bed.

Also, off the seating area is bathroom with toilet and washbasin.

Fire alarms are fitted upstairs and downstairs and are tested on a weekly basis.

A fire extinguisher is located in the cupboard under the stairs opposite the main entrance.

A torch is located in the cupboard under the sink in case of a power cut.

Modern central heating is fitted so there is no need to handle coal and logs for heating.


The nearest shops are in Haltwhistle or Haydon Bridge with a small Shop/Cafe, Pub and a Garage at Bardon Mill. Pubs serving food and drink can be found at The Twice Brewed nearby, the Milecastle, also nearby, Haltwhistle, Haydon Bridge and Bardon Mill.

Outside Roman Heights - for guests convenience

There is a seating area outside the cottages and a garden next to the main house for guests to use. It is accessible by stone steps or sloping path.

There is a strict no smoking policy in and around the property.

Hay may be stored in the yard and this is a potential fire risk if smoking is allowed.
